Music appreciation class offered
LA CRESCENTA -- A weekly music appreciation class is being
sponsored by the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church in
Montrose. The public can join the class any time.
Ted Stern, professor of music at Glendale Community College,
presents an in-depth look at composers of classical music throughout
the ages.
Classes are from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through June 3.

Author Ron White speaks to senior group
LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Ron White, author of “Lincoln’s Greatest
Speech: The Second Inaugural,” will speak at the next meeting of the
La Canada Presbyterian Church Cruiser Club at 11 a.m. Monday in Burcham Hall.
The book was on the best-seller list of the Washington Post and
San Francisco Chronicle. White lives in La Canada Flintridge. His
talk begins after lunch at 1 p.m.
Club meetings are open to everyone in the community 65 and older.
The cost for lunch is $11, and reservations can be made by calling

Harmonic Brass Quintet in concert
GLENDALE -- The world-renowned Harmonic Brass Quintet will make
its West Coast appearance at 8 tonight at the First German United
Methodist Church.
The group is unique in its ability to innovate and entertain
through musical variations of pieces that seldom have been performed
and pieces never intended to be played by brass. The musicians add a
subtle humor to their presentations.
Tickets are $15. A reception follows the concert. The church is at

Trio performs for Jazz Celebrations
GLENDALE -- The Page Cavanaugh Trio will perform as part of the
Jazz Celebrations program at 5 p.m. Sunday at the First Lutheran
Church.
The group features vocalist Cavanaugh on piano, accompanied by
Paul Mallory on bass and David Tull on drums.
Formerly the backup band for Frank Sinatra during the late 1940s,
the group also made appearances in several movies such as Doris Day’s
first film, “Romance on the High Seas.”
The church is at 1300 E. Colorado St., Glendale. For more

Free Christian concert scheduled
GLENDALE -- A free Christian concert by contemporary inspirational
vocalist Steve Green will be sponsored by Glendale Adventist Medical
Center at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Vallejo Drive Church, 300 Vallejo
Drive.
The family concert has a segment just for children. Selections to
be performed include “People Need the Lord,” “Find Us Faithful,” “The
Mission,” and songs from Green’s new recording, “Woven in Time”
Green has received four Grammy nominations, 13 No. 1 songs and six
Dove Awards, Christian music’s highest honor.
