Holy Family pastor honored for giving
GLENDALE -- Father Joseph Shea, pastor of Holy Family Church and a
longtime advisory board member of the Catholic Charities Glendale
Community Center, will be recognized at the second annual Spirit of
Giving Awards Dinner on Thursday at Oakmont Country Club.
Shea will receive the Emma Collins Spirit of Giving Award for
exhibiting exemplary leadership in volunteer service.
Tickets are $100 per person and proceeds benefit the continuation
of programs that serve low-income individuals, families, youths and
seniors in the community.
A reception begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the award
presentation from 7 to 9 p.m. Oakmont Country Club is at 3100
Country Club Drive, Glendale. Tables and sponsorships are still
available. For those unable to attend, contributions can be made in
Shea’s honor.

‘Cut Off Your Hand’ is sermon topic
GLENDALE -- “Cut Off Your Hand” will be the title of a sermon
delivered by senior pastor Wayne B. Walters at the 8:45 and 10:45
a.m. services Sunday at First United Methodist Church. His sermon is
based on the scripture Mark 9:38-50.
The Cathedral Choir, soloist Tiffany Carmel and organist Ladd
Thomas, will provide the music for the 10:45 a.m. service. A
contemporary praise and worship team provides the music for the 8:45
a.m. service. Child care is provided.
Food for Body and Soul volunteers will be serving meals beginning
at 1 p.m. Sunday in the church patio. The church is at 134 N.

Pastor discusses ‘Bible’s Real Message’
GLENDALE -- Through his theme, “Beyond the Passages: What Is the
Bible’s Real Message?” Pastor Ken Simon will delve more deeply into
the relevance of the Bible in today’s world when he speaks at the 9
and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services at the First Lutheran Church.
Each service begins with the people learning and singing new
songs. Children’s Church classes and child care are also available.

Refresher classes offered for Catholics
LA CRESCENTA -- A free eight-week refresher course for Catholics
and non-Catholics interested in learning more about the religion will
be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at St. James the Less Catholic Church.
The course continues through Nov. 17. To register, call 248-3442
during office hours. The church is at 4625 Dunsmore Ave., La
Crescenta.
