Glendale’s offense leads the way

BOYS’ SOCCER
Glendale 4, Burbank 2: The Nitros led 3-2 at halftime and added
another goal just before the match ended to win the nonleague contest
Wednesday at Burbank High.
Junior forward Hermo Vartanian scored a pair of goals in the first
half, and senior midfielder Edmond Matevosyan added the other score
during the first 40 minutes for Glendale (3-2).
Sophomore Sean Harbouche scored Glendale’s final goal on a header
-- thanks to an assist from Albert Keshishian -- to give him four
goals on the season.
Eddie Cosio and Matthew Maslin scored for Burbank (1-4-1).
The Nitros will next compete Friday in the 13th annual Ralph
Brandt Tournament.
Monrovia 1, Hoover 0: The Tornadoes dropped to 1-2 on the season
with Wednesday’s nonleague loss at home.
The Tornadoes will next compete at 3 p.m. Friday against Alemany
at Burroughs High in a consolation-round match of the 13th annual
Ralph Brandt Tournament.
San Marino 4, Flintridge Prep 2: Gary Au had a goal and an assist
for the Rebels (2-4). Flintridge Prep got a goal from Justin Mowery,
and teammate Alex Kipling had an assist.
The Rebels will next compete Saturday in the Laguna Blanca
Tournament.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Flintridge Prep 3, San Marino 3: The Rebels (4-0-1) rallied from a
3-1 halftime deficit. UCLA-bound Coco Kleinert had two goals and an
assist for the Rebels, who got a goal and assist from Jessica
Nishiguchi.
Flintridge Prep got an assist from Catalina Combs. Goalkeeper
Ayana Sumiyasu had seven saves.
The Rebels will next play another nonleague match against visiting
Oakwood at 3:15 p.m. today.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
La Canada 71, Duarte 57: Philip Anderson finished with 18 points,
15 rebounds and six blocked shots Wednesday to propel the Spartans
(3-0) in a quarterfinal game of the Arroyo Tournament at Arroyo High.
Rhett Anderson contributed 14 points, five rebounds and three
assists for La Canada, which got 16 points from Craig Ballard.
Abe Malik added six points for La Canada, which got four points
from Brett Shaw.
The Spartans will next play a semifinal tournament contest against
Montclair at 6 p.m. today at Arroyo High. The championship game will
be Monday night.
La Habra 56, Hoover 42: Sophomore forward Zare Zagaryan recorded a
team-best 17 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday for the Tornadoes in a
pool-play game of the El Rancho Tournament at La Habra High.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Burbank 42, Hoover 34: Hoover’s two-game winning streak came to an
end Wednesday following their nonleague loss to the visiting
Bulldogs.
Hoover (2-5) will next play another nonleague home game at 6:15
p.m. Friday against Alhambra.
