Reid watchers face defeat

Sunday’s Super Bowl put Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid in

the spotlight as he guided his team through a grueling game against

the New England Patriots, only to lose by 3 points.

Fans from Glendale gathered to watch Reid, the onetime offensive

lineman and kicker for Glendale Community College during the ‘70s.

Glendale Community College Foundation Executive Director Ann

Ransford hosted a party for several other foundation members to watch

Reid, a star football player inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame

at the school in 2003.

The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the college.

“This is very exciting, and we have the champagne chilling,”

Ransford said during the game. “We’re probably going to drink it

regardless of who wins.”

Jack Quinn, past president of the foundation, felt torn watching

the two teams. Having attended the University of Arizona, where

Patriots linebacker Teddy Bruschi played, Quinn was hard pressed to

choose.

One not-so-big football fan, Kathy Allmon, is the administrative

assistant for the foundation, who showed up despite her lack of

interest in sports.

“My husband stayed home because we’re not really big sports fans,

but this is kind of a special occasion, so here I am,” Allmon said.

Reid spent seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Green Bay

Packers before joining the Eagles in 1999, leading them to their

highest winning percentage in team history.

In his 12-year NFL coaching career, his teams have made the

playoffs 10 times.

He has coached in the Super Bowl twice, the NFC Championship game

six times and the Pro Bowl four times.
