Country club changes hands

The Chevy Chase Country Club, a Glendale landmark since 1926, has

been sold to a La Canada Flintridge doctor for an undisclosed amount,

club officials said Friday.

The country club, which features a 18-hole, par-67 course

redesigned by Harry Rainville in 1960, was purchased by Dr. Jong Lee,

club Marketing Coordinator Yuka Ioroi said. Lee purchased the

property from a fellow La Canada Flintridge resident, Don Han, who

owned the property for the past five years.

The sale of the club, at 3067 E. Chevy Chase Drive, was finalized

in the past month, Ioroi said.

“Mr. Lee is planning to bring up the level of customer service and

maintain Chevy Chase Country Club as a local institution,” she said.

“A lot of residents in this area, especially in Chevy Chase Canyon,

think this is a members-only club and that we don’t serve the public,

but we do.”

The club’s banquet facilities, full bar and restaurant and other

amenities are all available to the general public, as well as to the

club’s 400 members, Ioroi said.

“If a community group wants to have a meeting, we have a facility

available for them,” she said. “We really want to get in touch with

the people in the community, let them know we are here and to help

make our neighborhood a better place.”

An acupuncturist by trade, Lee owns his own hospital in the Los

Angeles area. He promises that the club will continue to provide the

same services club members are used to, but through better

facilities.

“I want to do major maintenance on the golf course, make the

greens a lot better and just bring up the quality of the course,” Lee

said.

Chevy Chase is the first country club he has ever purchased.

Lee would not divulge the club’s purchase price. His daughter,

Jane Lee, will handle day-to-day operations. The club includes a pro

shop, lockers, member’s lounge and swimming pool. Memberships start

at $750 for an initiation fee and $60 per month. A full family

membership is $300 per month, with a $5,000 initiation fee. For more
