Popular Kid Snack Recalled

A voluntary recall of the popular gourmet snack Pirate Booty has been issued on June 28, by the Food and Drug Administration, nationwide due to a possible health risk. The exact products being recalled are: Super Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn Sticks, and Veggie Booty.

According to Robert’s American Gourmet, the company who sells Pirate Booty, the products have been associated or related to more than 50 cases of Salmonella across the nation. Most of those affect were due to the consumption of Veggie Booty. The same seasoning is used on Corn Sticks, therefore they were included in the recall.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in your children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In the local area, the product is sold at Ralphs Markets, Whole Foods and Vons. All store representatives advised that consumers that purchased the recalled items to return them to the store, a receipt is not required, and a refund will be issued.
