Sports Roudup: Bouchard’s huge effort spurs Crescenta Valley girls’ basketball to playoff win
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Crescenta Valley 51, Kennedy 37: Caity Bouchard finished with a game-high 30 points Thursday to power visiting Crescenta Valley (18-10) to a CIF Southern Section Division II-AA first-round victory.
Crescenta Valley, which tied for second in the Pacific League, will meet Huntington Beach (23-6) in a second-round home match at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Huntington Beach, which won the Surf League crown, recorded a 56-20 first-round home win versus Anaheim Canyon on Thursday.
Workman 53, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 43: Flintridge Sacred Heart received 15 points from Sam Fung on Thursday, as its season concluded with a loss in a CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA first round contest.
Janna de Vera added 13 points for the Tologs (18-9). The Tologs took third in the Sunshine League.
Workman (19-9) was second in the Montview League.
Wildwood 60, St. Monica Academy 59: The Crusaders saw their season end Thursday with a defeat in a CIF Southern Section Division V-AA first-round home game at New Revelation Baptist Church in Pasadena.
St. Monica, which won the International League title, finished 13-5.
Wildwood (12-4) took third in the Coastal League.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Flintridge Prep 1, Aquinas 0: Simon Siskel scored a second-half goal to propel Flintridge Prep to a CIF Southern Section Division VI first-round win at St. Francis High on Thursday.
Goalkeeper Gabe Wallen finished with seven saves for the Rebels (15-6-1).
Flintridge Prep, which won the Prep League championship, will travel to Pacific (18-4-2) for a second-round contest Saturday at a time to be determined.
Pacific, the Mountain Valley League champion, posted a 2-1 first-round win versus South Pasadena on Thursday.
Newbury Park 1, St. Francis 0: Visiting St. Francis yielded a second-half goal and saw its season wrap up Thursday following a CIF Southern Section Division II first-round defeat.
St. Francis (10-9-4) placed fourth in the Mission League.
Newbury Park (16-1-3) took first in the Marmonte League and defeated St. Francis for the second time this season.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Glendale Community College 6, Ventura College 3: Glendale began defense of its Western State Conference title Thursday with a road win.
Glendale got singles wins from Isabella Chacon, 6-0, 6-1, Elen Ghazaryan, 6-1, 6-4, Jennifer Goldsbury, 6-2, 6-4, and Marissa Deciga, 6-4, 6-7(4-7), 7-6 (7-5).
The Vaqueros picked up doubles victories from Chacon and Ghazaryan, 8-1, and Goldsbury and Karina Ramirez, 8-5.
MEN’S TENNIS
Glendale Community College 5, Ventura College 4: Host Glendale earned a Western State Conference victory Thursday.
The Vaqueros improved to 2-0 in conference.
