Baskin-Robbins, which was founded in Glendale, welcomed dozens of employees, current and former, and local ice cream lovers who came for discounted treats to help them celebrate their 70th birthday.
Glendale residents once again met the city’s monthly water conservation goal in October, consuming almost a quarter less water than the same period two years ago, utility officials said.
Southern California newspaper veteran John Canalis has been promoted to executive editor of Times Community News, which publishes seven community titles delivered with the Los Angeles Times. Canalis, currently the TCN editor in Orange County, also will assume responsibility for TCN in Los Angeles County, which consists of the Glendale News-Press, the Burbank Leader and the La Cañada Valley Sun, on Monday.
A 40-year-old woman was arrested Sunday evening after reportedly throwing a plate of chili cheese fries at a fast-food worker and then shattering the restaurant’s front door during a robbery attempt, police said.
More than a dozen Glendale officials were on hand Tuesday for the grand opening of the Park Paseo — a half-wooden deck and half-concrete path that links parts of downtown. The path took more than a year and $2 million to build.
Holiday cheer filled the air in Montrose Saturday evening at the 39th annual Montrose Christmas Parade. Hundreds of onlookers lined the sidewalks of Honolulu Avenue, many setting up chairs and even tents for a good view of the longtime community tradition.

The Church of Latter-day Saints in Burbank hosted its annual “Christmas Nativity Festival” Saturday and Sunday, displaying roughly 240 sets of the sculptures depicting the birth of Jesus Christ with his parents, the Virgin Mary and Joseph, and the Three Wise Men in Bethlehem, among other stable inhabitants.
The Congressional App Challenge, which is the annual science, technology, engineering and math competition started in 2013 by the U.S. House of Representatives, is getting underway for the 28th Congressional District, according to Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank).
- A 29-year-old man was arrested Friday after reportedly spitting on a Foot Locker employee who would not give him a discount, officials said.
