Here’s a roundup of headlines for today:
- Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank), whose district office is located about a mile from where a Hobby Lobby store will open on Friday, criticized the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of the arts-and-crafts supply retailer to pay insurance covering contraceptives for its female workers.
- About 200 people attended a special Burbank school board meeting Monday night at which about 40 people addressed school officials with concerns about the potential opening of a charter school later this year, with many of them fearing the school would focus on Armenian students.
Water flowed through the intersection of Verdugo Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose Tuesday morning after a 12-inch underground main was ruptured during road work, officials said.
Robert “Bob” Francis Hastings, Sr., a radio actor who found his footing in television, notably for portraying “yes man” Lt. Elroy Carpenter on the popular sitcom “McHale’s Navy,” has died. He was 89.
The Glendale Water & Power Commission unanimously recommended to the City Council this week a proposed water-rate plan that would boost revenue, on average, by a compounded 21.8% over four years.
