818 Roundup: Street performers draw ire of some downtown Burbank businesses; New Holiday Inn proposed in Glendale

As downtown Burbank has become more popular for street performers, it’s created some problems for some businesses. Now the city of Burbank is looking at ways to implement some guidelines that respect the free speech rights of performers while creating some order.
A developer is looking to replace a gym on Colorado Street with a Holiday Inn down the street from a series of older hotels and motels that a city official hopes could be inspired by the new project to upgrade their own buildings.
The Burbank Community Band is a “true community band,” said director Paulette Westphal. The outfit of local musicians is a fixture at several events in town throughout the year, including Burbank’s Memorial Day service.
