Glendale Community College is offering workshops next month for those interested in being accepted into the school’s nursing program.
The workshops will be held during the college’s winter session, and they will cover prerequisite and admission requirements for the nursing programs.
The workshops will also address costs, clinical sites and expected daily schedules once a student is accepted.
No appointment is necessary to attend a workshop, but late arrivals will not be admitted. The schedule for workshops and other nursing program information can be found at glendale.edu/nursing.
Registration continues
Open registration is underway for the winter 2017 session, which begins Jan. 9, and for the spring 2017 semester, which begins Feb. 21.
The college application is online and can be found at glendale.edu/apply. Class listings for winter and spring can be found at glendale.edu/schedules. Click on “Winter” or “Spring” to select the desired term. Glendale Community College offers a live chat for general application and registration information. The college will be closed for winter break from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.
Glendale Community College’s new spaces
Several locations around campus have been updated with renovations and given new looks.
The Learning Center, which provides free services to students such as one-on-one and online tutoring and writing workshops, was given a recent remodel. The Learning Center is located on the second floor of the administration building.
The library’s third floor was also recently remodeled to create a more modern study space for students, which includes tables equipped with outlets and USB hubs as well as cafe-style armchairs and banquet-style seating areas for group study.
The “Sandbox” is a new lab in the San Rafael building for use by students in computer science and information systems classes. It is an experiential learning place, where students are encouraged to think, learn and solve problems by engaging with tutors, instructors, technology and each other to propose, design and execute project-based learning activities.
The welcome center has moved into a new, larger location in the Sierra Madre building. As part of student outreach services, the welcome center serves as an information hub for current and prospective students. The staff is available to help students apply for admission, register for classes, access college resources and navigate the campus.
The Multicultural Community Engagement Center, formerly known as the Center for Student Involvement, offers students campus-involvement and civic-engagement opportunities that promote diversity, critical thinking, communication and personal responsibility.
The name was changed, and so was the location, to an expanded and updated space on the second floor of the Sierra Madre building. The programs include course-based service learning, on- and off-campus community service, volunteer fairs and leadership opportunities.
Opening this coming spring, students participating in athletics programs will have access to the Center for Academic Success in Athletics. The center will provide a space for student athletes to meet with counselors, connect with mentors, receive tutoring and participate in group-study sessions.
