Kids hunt for candy, not eggs, in Easter-themed event in Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach families flocked to the Central Park Sports Complex on Saturday to hunt for candy and enjoy various forms of entertainment.

Chairman John Etheridge said about 11,000 people turned out for the free Easter event, which was hosted by the city and the Kiwanis Club of Huntington Beach.

Nine candy — not egg — hunts were held for children ages 1 to 10.

“The city finds that plastic eggs are not green,” Etheridge said in explaining why the city opts out of putting on a traditional Easter egg hunt.

Kids and their families also had the chance to take photos with the Easter bunny.

Other offerings included interactive fitness presentations, police, fire and city department displays, game booths, face-painting and live bands.

The Kiwanis Club served food to raise money for less fortunate families in the city. All food was prepared by the Huntington Beach Firefighters Assn.
