Corgis rule the day at Huntington Dog Beach

It was a cornucopia of corgis on Saturday at Huntington Dog Beach as So Cal Corgi Nation presented its fall Corgi Beach Day with nearly 725 of the Welsh herding dogs having a short-legged frolic in the sand and surf.

Partying pups could participate in a photo booth, a talent contest, a “best corgi butt” contest, a Halloween costume contest and a limbo contest, and their owners could buy into a raffle with a grand prize of a year’s supply of pet food.

Organizers said the event raised $1,000 for Queen’s Best Stumpy Dog Rescue, a North Hollywood-based nonprofit whose name refers to Queen Elizabeth II’s fondness for corgis.

In addition, Purina’s Beyond pet food brand is donating 934 pounds of food to the group – a pound for every tweet or Instagram post that included “#CorgiBeachDay” and “@BeyondPetFood.”

“We love that we can continue to find creative ways to raise more funds, food and adoptions for Queens Best Stumpy Dog Rescue while helping people get crazy with their corgis in the process,” Kelly McLemore, co-founder of the Corgi Beach Day, said in a statement.
