CV Soccer Club Boys’ U10 Team Reaches Irvin Classic Finals

The Crescenta Valley Soccer Club Boys’ U10 team, coached by Brett Vorster, competed recently in The Irvine Winter Classic and reached the finals after beating some of the finest teams in the Southern California area.

The first game was against the Long Beach Youth Soccer Organization. The team won the game 4-0 with exceptional play from defensive stars Alexander Damla, Anthony Aguilar, Daniel Eng and Joshua Cook.

Goal keeping standout Joseph Inda recorded his first shutout of the tournament. The first goal was scored by speedy forward Bijan Rahimi. Midfielder Adan Martinez completed a beautiful header for the team’s second goal. Forward Tony Royer added two powerful goals to finalize the victory.

In the second game against the SC Storm, the boys battled to a 1-1 draw. The midfield play was controlled by Joseph Kim and Ryan Boyd. The CVSC goal was scored on a long range set play by Cook from outside the box.

The team needed to defeat the strong Carlsbad Wave Team to advance to the finals. Once again the defense rose to the occasion with superb goal keeping play from Inda for a 4-0 shutout.

Royer completed the hat-trick with three dominant goals against the Wave defense. Forward Levik Youssefian headed a pass from Cook to the back of the net to send the team to the finals.

The final game was against North Huntington Beach Black. Royer continued his scoring ways with a first half strike to put CV up early. NHB battled back to tie the game in the second half. Royer had a powerful set piece that pounded off the crossbar but couldn’t find the net.

With one minute to play, NHB knocked a shot off the crossbar and into the corner of the net. CV was defeated 2-1 in the finals.

“That’s soccer, when two strong teams come to the finals, anything can happen. This team played a fantastic tournament and I couldn’t be prouder of them”, said Coach Vorster after the tough loss.

Missing from the tournament due to illness was defender Michael Martin.

For those parents interested in having their children play competitive soccer, CVSC is forming boys and girls teams for ages 8-18.
