For the past month, San Gabriel Valley Girl Scouts have actively participated in the Girl Scout Cookie Program Activity, selling a boxes of Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos or one of five other cookie varieties.
For nearly 90 years, the cookie program has helped girls develop skills they will use throughout their entire lives. Through this annual activity, girls ages 6-17 learn how to work together as a team, set goals and develop plans for reaching those goals.
“Many of today’s successful business women credit the Girl Scout Cookie program as their first step toward successful careers,” said Brenda Berg, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts -- Mt. Wilson Vista Council.
The sale features eight favorites?Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Trefoils, All Abouts and -- new this year -- Café Cookies. Plus, Tagalongs and reduced fat Lemon Coolers are offered with zero grams of trans fat this year to give customers new, healthier alternatives.
The cookies, which sell for $4 a box, can be ordered from neighborhood Girl Scouts, or at booths in front of many grocery stores and other public places. The sale ends March 26.
All proceeds from the cookie program stay local and help make the Girl Scouting experience available to any girl who wants to participate.
New for 2006, the Council is coordinating a council-wide Gift of Caring service project, “Troops to Troops,” to benefit Operation Gratitude, an organization created to send care packages to military troops deployed overseas.
