Family, Patients Mark Descanso Pediatrics’ 50th Anniversary

A pediatrics clinic that’s been around for 50 years is one where the same doctor sees the children of his patient’s children. That’s a clear sign of trustworthiness and quality care.

Last Sunday, Descanso Pediatrics, a private practice in La Cañada co-founded by H. James Holroyd and Frank E. Dudenhoeffer, celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The celebration took place at the clinic and was attended by family, friends, parents and their children.

Celebrating this milestone, Doctor Laura E. Mabie said, is due to the quality care and accessibility.

“We make ourselves available answering parents questions. We do good follow up, and we follow our patients in the hospital.”

Generation after generations children have been taken care of by doctors in Descanso Pediatrics.

“We love it here,” Kelly Odgers, a mother of two, said. “The doctors just really make an effort to accommodate you. If the regular doctor can’t see my kids, they always find a way to squeeze you in with them or another doctor.”

Odgers said that is a plus, because there is no way to anticipate when a child is going to get sick, which means there’s no way to schedule an appointment in advance.

“Sometimes I’ve called the office with questions about my kids, and they get back to me with answers,” said Ann Benavides, whose children and grandchildren have been seen by Descanso Pediatrics since birth. “All the doctors are great. We’ve referred many of our friends to them.”
