LCHS 7/8 named a 2014 ‘California School to Watch’

On Friday morning school officials, students and parents gathered in the campus auditorium to celebrate the news that La Cañada High School 7/8 was named a “California School to Watch” as a model middle school by the California Middle Grades Alliance.

“We are thrilled to have received this recognition,” stated Principal Ryan Zerbel in a school district news release. “Our staff and students have worked very hard in an exciting and challenging middle school program to demonstrate strong student achievement. This ceremony is an affirmation of the fine work so many have done in the school, district and larger community.”

Since 2003, 350 schools nationwide have received the designation, 59 of those are in California.

“La Cañada 7/8 Middle School is a model of what an outstanding middle school can be,” stated Dr. Irvin Howard, president of the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform. “School leaders from across the state will now turn to La Cañada 7/8 for guidance on improving their programs to better serve their students.”

Friday’s celebration included the presentation of a banner proclaiming the school’s achievement.
