Rita’s Italian ices come to La Cañada
As temperatures began to rise this week, La Cañada Flintridge residents stood in line at a new shop to load up on Italian ice and frozen custard.
Rita’s Italian ice opened on Foothill Boulevard Monday across the street from Trader Joe’s. Chris Rodgers, one of the franchisees for the business, said there were still people in the store after closing on the first day.

The city has a few other businesses that offer frozen treats, such as Pinkberry and Penguin’s Frozen Yogurt, but that didn’t stop locals from checking out the new shop.
“We had a nice turnout,” said Rodgers. “A lot of locals from the San Gabriel Valley.”
Besides its signature Italian ice and custard treats, the shop also sells soft pretzels, custard cakes and custard cookie sandwiches.
