Letter: Flowers bloom forecasts change
One thing I could always count on and looked forward to, for decades, was that my mother’s cymbidium orchids would bloom in March. Mom’s blooming orchids equals March.
Last year they bloomed in February. That was a surprise. An anomaly, I thought. This year they bloomed in mid-January. These plants are 20 years old, they’ve never “acted like this” before. I’m thinking that Mom’s orchids are not political and don’t give a fig about global warming. I think they respond to the weather, which is clearly telling them to bloom! Orchids can’t lie.
The times (and the weather) — they are a’changin’.
