Dodgers’ Adrian Gonzalez breaks down Braves starter Julio Teheran
In a story that ran in the Sunday edition of The Times, Adrian Gonzalez talked about what he looks for when studying video of his opponents.
Here’s Gonzalez’s scouting report on Atlanta Braves right-hander Julio Teheran, who will start Game 3 of the National League division series Sunday against the Dodgers:
“He’s a guy, from what I’ve seen, mixes speeds well with his curveball. He’s unpredictable with what they call his slider-curveball — it’s the same pitch, he just changes speeds on it. His changeup’s pretty consistent on the outside corner. Fastball, in and out, he likes to keep it down. He’s a guy you have to wait out and make sure you get a pitch over the plate. If you chase at stuff, he’ll get you to roll over and have weak at-bats. You really have to be patient.”
Teheran, a 22-year-old from Colombia, was 14-8 with a 3.20 earned-run average in 30 regular-season starts.
Teheran has never pitched against the Dodgers. Only two players on the Dodgers’ current roster have faced Teheran: utilityman Michael Young and left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano.
Young was 0 for 3 with a strikeout against Teheran earlier this season while playing for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Capuano was 0 for 2 against him in 2011, when Capuano was pitching for the New York Mets. Capuano was the winning pitcher in that game.
