Maybe this time — the third time, actually — is the charm.

The Chargers have added kicker Travis Coons to their active roster, moving Nick Novak to the injured reserve list. Coons will kick Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Novak, who was signed to replace rookie Younghoe Koo earlier this season, suffered a back injury in the Chargers’ game against the Cowboys last week in Dallas. The team signed Coons as insurance this week in case Novak couldn’t heal in time.

Coons spent one year in the NFL, kicking for the Browns in 2015. With Cleveland, Coons made 28 of 32 field goal attempts and 22 of 24 extra point tries

Coons, who was born in Alta Loma, was in camp with the Rams this summer before being waived.
