Reporting from Cleveland — As expected, Clippers forward Blake Griffin will not make his return from an extended injury absence on Thursday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also won’t play Friday against the New York Knicks.
“If you could play [Friday], you could probably play [Thursday],” Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said before the team’s shoot-around Thursday morning at Quicken Loans Arena.
Griffin has increased the intensity of his workouts as he tries to return from a nearly month-long absence caused by a partially torn left quadriceps tendon. The soonest he might return is during the Clippers’ game Tuesday against the Indiana Pacers.
The Clippers will also play the Toronto Raptors on Sunday as part of their five-game trip.
“We’re not going to rush it, I can tell you that,” Rivers said of Griffin’s return.
The Clippers have gone 10-1 during Griffin’s absence.
