The Dodgers fired bench coach Trey Hillman on Tuesday, according to a person familiar with the decision but not authorized to discuss it.

Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

When the Dodgers promoted Don Mattingly to manager three years ago, Hillman was his handpicked bench coach. When the team spent much of the first half of the season in last place in the National League West, there was some internal discussion about whether dismissing Hillman might be an alternative to dismissing Mattingly.

Hillman’s future appeared precarious in the playoffs, given the questionable in-game strategies used by Mattingly.

While Mattingly’s future remains in question, the Dodgers also have parted ways with advance scout Wade Taylor and athletic trainer Sue Falsone in the last two days.
