Dodgers’ Zack Greinke wins second consecutive Gold Glove

Score one for Zack Greinke in his head-to-head competition with Jake Arrieta.

Tuesday Greinke was awarded his second consecutive Gold Glove as the best defensive pitcher in the National League.

Greinke, Arrieta of the Cubs and Gerrit Cole of the Pirates had previously been announced as the three Gold Glove finalists. Greinke and Arrieta, along with Clayton Kershaw, were also announced as finalists Tuesday for the National League Cy Young award.

Greinke is the first Dodger to win consecutive Gold Gloves since Steve Garvey won four straight (1974-1977) and joins Andy Messersmith (1974-75) and Greg Maddox (2006, 2008) as the only Dodgers pitchers to win two Gold Gloves.

Adrian Gonzalez, who had been announced as a finalist at first, lost out to Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt. Gonzalez has won four Gold Gloves, including last season with the Dodgers.

Dee Gordon, traded to the Marlins last off-season, also won a Gold Glove to go along with his batting title. Also, the Dodgers paid his $2.5-million salary.

Gold Gloves are voted upon by managers and coaches.
