Dodgers fall to Philadelphia Phillies, 7-3

KEY MOMENT: Brian Wilson failed to complete a ninth inning in which he gave up three hits and allowed the Phillies to break a 3-3 stalemate. Wilson gave up a two-run double to Carlos Ruiz. His night ended when he hit Ryan Howard to load the bases. Wilson was replaced by Jamey Wright, who promptly gave up a two-run single to Marlon Byrd that increased the Phillies’ lead to 7-3.

ON THE MOUND: Dan Haren made another solid start and could have won his fourth game if not for a fifth-inning error by first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. The error led to three runs for the Phillies, of which only one was earned. Haren completed six innings, striking out seven in the process.

AT THE PLATE: Juan Uribe put the Dodgers in front, 2-0, with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Uribe was three for four and raised his average to .330. Gonzalez hit his team-leading sixth home run in the seventh inning to tie the score, 3-3.

NEW RULES: Yasiel Puig hit a sharp grounder to third base with men on the corners in the fifth inning and the Dodgers trailing, 3-2. Third baseman Cody Asche threw out Hanley Ramirez at the plate, but Manager Don Mattingly argued that catcher Ruiz was in violation of newly implemented Rule 7.13, which prevents catchers from blocking the plate. The umpires reviewed the play under the expanded replay system, only to rule the original call stood.

ON THE MEND: Clayton Kershaw remains scheduled to pitch Friday for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.
