Dodgers acquire infielder Michael Young

The Dodgers acquired Michael Young on Saturday, trading for the veteran infielder minutes before the deadline for postseason eligibility. The deal was being finalized late Saturday night, according to a person familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it.

Young, 36, could be in line to replace or complement Juan Uribe as the Dodgers’ third baseman.

Young batted .272 for the Philadelphia Phillies, with eight home runs in 125 games. Uribe is batting .271, with seven home runs in 110 games, and is considered a superior defender.

Young has only 13 pinch-hit at-bats in his career, with four hits.

The Dodgers gave up an unidentified minor leaguer not considered a top prospect.

Young grew up in Covina and attended Bishop Amat High. He has played in the World Series twice in his 14-year career -- for the Texas Rangers in 2010 and ’11 -- but never has played on a team that won a championship.

He is a career .248 hitter in postseason play.

Young is a seven-time All-Star. He played first base and third base for the Phillies this season and all four infield positions for Texas last season.
