Carl Crawford could make Dodgers debut Sunday

PHOENIX -- Carl Crawford could play his first game for the Dodgers on Sunday, according to Manager Don Mattingly.

Crawford, who is recovering from reconstructive elbow surgery, will hit Saturday in a minor league game. If he comes out of that without any problems, he will play the next day in the Dodgers’ Cactus League game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Camelback Ranch.

Crawford last played with a major league squad on Aug. 19.

The Dodgers also received encouraging news about starting pitcher Zack Greinke, who could throw a light bullpen session on Sunday. Greinke played catch on Saturday morning, marking the second consecutive day in which he has thrown a baseball after receiving an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his sore right elbow.

The Dodgers will face the Texas Rangers in Surprise, Ariz., on Saturday. Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw will be on a pitch count of 90 and is expected to throw six innings.
