Previewing Friday night’s top high school football games
Friday’s top high school football games:
Newhall Hart (4-1) at Valencia (3-2), 7 p.m.: Valencia has won 22 consecutive Foothill League games and won or shared the last seven league titles. Hart used to be the dominant program and should provide a stiff test behind quarterback Nick Moore. Valencia relies on quarterback Aaron Thomas. Both teams have had trouble protecting the quarterback. The pick: Valencia.
Bellflower St. John Bosco (4-1) vs. Anaheim Servite (3-2) at Cerritos College, 7 p.m.: The Trinity League season begins. This game doesn’t look much of a matchup, unless Servite plays the way it did in a close loss to Concord De La Salle earlier this season. The Friars need to give time to quarterback Tyler Lytle. St. John Bosco’s powerful defensive line will be tough to stop. The pick: St. John Bosco.
