Birmingham to play San Fernando for City Section Division I soccer championship
It will be top-seeded Birmingham playing No. 5 San Fernando for the City Section Division I boys’ soccer championship on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Valley College.
Birmingham defeated Cleveland 4-1 in Tuesday’s semifinals. The Patriots broke the match open on two goals from sophomore Anthony Miron off penalty kicks. It was a costly game, though. Leading scorer Noel Ortega picked up a red card and won’t be able to play in Friday’s final.
San Fernando defeated Palisades 2-0 in its semifinal. Fernando Gonzalez and Anthony Chavez scored goals for the Tigers.
In Division II, South East defeated Banning 2-1 and will face Jefferson, a 3-0 win over Foshay.
In girls’ Division I, it will be West Valley League rivals El Camino Real and Granada Hills squaring off at 5:15 p.m. on Friday at Valley College.
El Camino Real defeated San Pedro 5-0. Zoi Lerma had a goal and two assists. Granada Hills defeated Cleveland 1-0.
In Division V girls, Venice defeated Locke 3-0. Maywood CES defeated Dorsey 6-0.
