Baseball: Ben Kaser leads Cleveland in West Valley League opener
First-year Reseda Cleveland Coach Scott Drootin turned to Ben Kaser in his team’s West Valley League opener on Wednesday against Granada Hills, and Kaser (6-0) delivered. He struck out seven and gave up five hits in a 6-0 victory. He also contributed four RBIs.
Chatsworth knocked off Birmingham, 10-0, behind sophomore Josh Garcia, who threw six shutout innings. Sam Shaikin, Jake Ryan and Michael Baregamyan each had a single and double. Baregamyan had three RBIs.
Jeremy Polon and Jordan Berg combined on the mound to lift El Camino Real past Taft, 5-1. Hayden Rappoport went three for four with a double, home run and two RBIs.
In the East Valley League, North Hollywood defeated Poly, 6-3. Andrew Marmor threw a complete game and also drove in three runs. The Huskies improved to 11-5 overall and 6-0 in league, keeping them in first place.
