Baseball: Chatsworth starts 2-0 in the West Valley League
Niko Switalla provided solid relief pitching to come up with the save and also contributed two hits to help Chatsworth knock off Birmingham, 7-4, on Friday to finish a sweep of the defending City Section champions in the opening week of West Valley League play.
All-City shortstop Sam Shaikin added three hits for the Chancellors.
Aliso Niguel 1, Dana Hills 0: Zak Nocon threw the shutout to hand Dana Hills only its second loss of the season.
Ayala 1, South Hills 0: Erik Cha threw the shutout for Ayala.
Villa Park 5, Brea Olinda 0: Villa Park improved to 9-2 and 4-0 in the North Hills League. Anthony Navarro threw a two-hitter, walking none and striking out one.
Loyola 3, Chaminade 1: Holden Groff and Ben Post combined to lift the Cubs to a Mission League sweep of Chaminade, which committed five errors and received a home run from Blake Rutherford. Awari Muoneke drove in two runs for Loyola.
St. Francis 3, Harvard-Westlake 2: Andres Kim threw the complete game in a Mission League stunner. St. Francis has won two Mission League games, one more than all of last season.
Alemany 6, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1: Brandon Ponticelli threw six shutout innings and Alex Mckenna hit a home run for the Warriors, who are 4-0 in the Mission League.
Agoura 6, Thousand Oaks 2: Brandon Shearer went four for four and Ryan Fineman hit a home run to power the Chargers.
Westlake 3, Newbury Park 1: Matthew Donovan had two hits and two RBI for Westlake, which rallied for three runs in the seventh.
Calabasas 12, Oaks Christian 2: Joey Medellin had two hits and three RBI and Nate Ryngler hit a two-run home run for the Coyotes.
West Ranch 6, Saugus 5: Jagger Rusconi hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh for West Ranch.
Hart 8, Golden Valley 1: Jack Ralston threw a complete game, striking out eight. Jake Lewis hit a home run and Julian Rea had three hits.
Valencia 10, Canyon 7: Cole Kleszcz went three four three and Kevin Chandler hit a pinch-hit three-run home run.
Vista Murrieta 10, Murrieta Mesa 6: Mitch Moralez had three hits and Connor Cannon drove in three runs to lead the Broncos.
Temecula Valley 8, Great Oak 6: Isaiah Moten threw a complete game for Temecula Valley. Mitch Hayes had three RBI for Great Oak. David Maldonado had a two-run walk-off home run for Temecula Valley.
El Dorado 6, El Modena 2: Nick Sprengel struck out six in five innings for El Dorado. Brett Conine had 11 strikeouts for El Modena, which made three errors.
Esperanza 5, Anaheim Canyon 4: Esperanza scored a run in the eighth to pull out the win. Haydon Nix had two hits and two RBI.
Diamond Bar 3, Glendora 2: Diamond Bar came up with the Palomares League win. Dylan Miller had two hits and two RBI.
Poly 10, Grant 0: Michael Galindo struck out nine and threw a one-hitter. Ruben Dominguez had three hits and two RBI.
North Hollywood 10, Monroe 0: Brandon Ortega threw the shutout. Ryan Ruiz hit a home run and finished with three RBI.
Village Christian 3, Valley Christian 2: Chris Davidson threw a complete game, striking out seven. The Crusaders are 4-0 in the Olympic League.
Beckman 11, Irvine 4: An 11-run first inning propelled Beckman to victory. Matt McLain had three hits and Isaiah Bull had three RBI.
Mission Viejo 3, Trabuco Hills 1: Michael Solario had two hits for the Diablos.
Santa Barbara 15, Buena 12: The Dons won in eight innings after blowing an 11-0 lead. Bryce Morison hit a grand slam during an eight-run second inning. Buena scored 10 runs in the fifth and two in the seventh to tie the game, 12-12. Morison had three hits and five RBI. Trevor Moropoulos had four hits and three RBI.
Mater Dei 6, Redlands East Valley 4: The Monarchs picked up the win.
Edison 8, Marina 4: Edison improved to 13-1 and 3-0 in the Sunset League.
Long Beach Wilson 9, Long Beach Jordan 3: Riley Dent had two hits for the Bruins.
