Baseball: Glendora advances to Boras Classic semifinals
Left-hander Kale Morton threw a one-hitter and Griffen Herrera had two hits and two RBIs to help Glendora defeat San Dimas, 5-0, on Tuesday to advance to Thursday’s semifinals of the Boras Classic. Glendora will play Vista Murrieta at 6 o’clock on Thursday at JSerra.
Vista Murrieta upset No. 1-ranked JSerra, 6-3, behind Coltin Gerhart, who had a double and triple and two RBIs. Bryan Call had two doubles and three RBIs in Mater Dei’s 6-1 win over Chino Hills. Rece Goodman threw six shutout innings, striking out seven. Colby Myers had three hits for Chino Hills.
Drew Seelman three hits and three RBIs, including a home run, in Temecula Valley’s 7-6 win over Valencia. Kyle Plantier also had three RBIs. Valencia tied the game with two runs in the seventh and Temecula Valley won it with a Plantier’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. Temecula Valley advances to the semifinals with a 6 p.m. game against host Mater Dei.
In the Lions tournament, junior Nigel Ward of Servite threw a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over Laguna Hills.
In the Mission League, Harvard-Westlake rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat Crespi, 8-4. Jack Flaherty gave up his first runs of the season. He struck out nine and allowed one earned run. Tyler Urbach had a two-run double to rally the Wolverines. He also had a triple. Flaherty added a two-run triple. Matt Cassin had two hits for Crespi.
Darren Kriz delivered a two-run double in the ninth to give Chaminade a 6-4 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. Sophomore Nick Kahle had a home run and RBI on a sacrifice fly. Loyola improved to 10-1 with a 15-1 win over St. Francis. Stephen Dubb went three for three with four RBIs. Nick Sablock had three RBIs. Eric Del Prado had a home run.
Woodbridge knocked off Beckman 8-0, behind Connor Rogers, who allowed two hits and struck out six. He also had two hits.
In the Moore League, Long Beach Jordan defeated Lakewood, 4-1. Michael Hurtado struck out 10. Long Beach Wilson defeated Long Beach Cabrillo, 11-1. Stevie Castro had two hits and three RBIs.
In the Pacific League, Glendale defeated Burroughs, 4-0. Jack Porras threw the shutout, scattering nine hits. Hoover defeated Muir, 9-0. Joanthan Ramos struck out six and walked none. J.P. Gallegos and Scott Yzarnotegui each had two hits. Pasadena defeated Crescenta Valley, 3-0. Niko Lopez threw six shutout innings.
Marco Briones threw a five-hitter and Christian Maciel singled in the game’s only run in the fourth inning in Alhambra’s 1-0 win over San Gabriel. Alhambra is 10-3 and 4-0 in the Almont League.
Campbell Hall was beaten by Western, 9-1, and tied Magnolia, 11-11. in the Lions tournament. Charles Goldring had three hits and is 9 for 13 in four games in the tournament.
Tyler Miller struck out seven in El Toro’s 4-0 win over Diamond Bar.
