Baseball: Great Oak knocks off No. 1 Temecula Valley
In the Southwestern League, no games are easy, and No. 1-ranked Temecula Valley found that out on Tuesday, losing to Great Oak, 7-6.
Sophomore pitcher Zack Noll won his sixth game and Logan Morrison contributed a key two-run single for Great Oak. David Maldonado had three RBIs for Temecula Valley.
Kale Morton improved to 5-0 in Glendora’s 5-2 Baseline League win over Los Osos. He struck out eight. Eric Flores had a three-run home run. Rancho Cucamonga defeated Alta Loma, 8-5. Upland defeated Etiwanda, 3-2.
Harvard-Westlake defeated Dos Pueblos, 8-2, at USC. In his final tuneup before a showdown game next week against Loyola, Jack Flaherty threw five innings, striking out six. John Thomas had two RBIs.
In the Channel League, sophomore Kevin Gowdy and senior Gabe Grandcolas combined to outduel Austin Rubick (4-1) in Santa Barbara’s 2-1 victory over Buena. Gowdy pitched five innings. Grandcolas pitched the final two. Santa Barbara (10-4, 2-1) scored the winning run on an error in the seventh. Tony Fonzo had three of Buena’s four hits.
In the Mission League, Quinn Brodey struck out eight in five innings in Loyola’s 5-1 win over Crespi. Brodey had three hits and Angelo Armenta had two RBIs. Alemany defeated Chaminade, 7-3. Brandon Ponticelli improved to 5-0. Demetri Pagalidis had three hits, including a home run. Cristian Montes and Thomas Luevano added two apiece.
Tommy Wilson threw the shutout in Sherman Oaks Notre Dame’s 2-0 win over St. Francis. Chris Colarossi had both of Notre Dame’s two hits against Andres Kim.
In the San Gabriel Valley League, Gahr handed Warren its first defeat, 5-4. Albert Avila had an RBI double and an RBI single.
Esperanza rallied for a 4-3 win over El Modena. Tristan Hildebrandt had two hits and three RBIs.
Cameron White of Bishop struck out 18 batters in an 8-0 win over California City.
Sierra Canyon defeated Campbell Hall, 10-3. Seth Stone and Zach Tavelman had three RBIs apiece.
Bishop Amat defeated Bishop Montgomery, 4-1. Alex Garcia struck out 13 in six innings and allowed one hit. Scott Hurst and Adryan Ramirez each had two hits. La Salle defeated St. Paul, 3-2.
In the Sunset League, Huntington Beach defeated Newport Harbor, 3-0. Sean O’Toole threw five shutout innings. Hagen Danner struck out three in his one inning of relief. Michael Mahony had a walk-off single to give Edison a 4-3 win over Marina. Nate Madden threw four innings of scoreless relief. Hunter Margain threw six shutout innings in Fountain Valley’s 7-0 win over Los Alamitos.
Jay Schuyler had a two-run home run to rally Dana Hills (14-4, 4-0) to a 4-3 win over San Clemente in the Sea View League.
Aaron Lizarraga had three hits and Ryan McCanless had three RBIs in Cypress’ 13-6 win over Tustin.
Riverside North defeated Canyon Springs, 10-7. A.J. Jurado had three hits.
In the Pacific League, Burroughs defeated Hoover, 4-2. Pasadena defeated Arcadia, 6-2. Crescenta Valley defeated Glendale, 4-0.
Village Christian scored four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to defeat Whittier Christian, 7-2. Jesse Hanckel had a two-run home run.
Gardena Serra defeated Cathedral, 3-0.
