Baseball: Nolan Martinez, Sean Reynolds, Jeremy Martinez selected on second day of draft
Several Southern California products have been selected on the second day of baseball’s amateur draft.
Pitcher Nolan Martinez of Culver City went in the third round to the New York Yanees as the No. 98 pick overall.
Outfielder-pitcher Sean Reynolds, who led Redondo to a second consecutive Southern Section Division 3 championship, was taken by the Florida Marlins in the fourth round. Former Glendora standout DJ Peters went to the Dodgers in the fourth round. Another fourth-round pick was former Santa Ana Mater Dei and USC catcher Jeremy Martinez as the last pick in the fourth round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
Former Servite pitcher Cole Irvin of Oregon was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round. Former Palm Desert catcher Brian Serven of Arizona State was chosen by the Rockies in the fifth round.
In the sixth round, former Palm Desert and USC pitchder Brooks Kriske went to the Yankees. In the seventh round, former Valencia and Loyola Marymount pitcher JD Busfield went to Tampa Bay.
In the eighth round, former Chatsworth first baseman Chris DeVito from New Mexico went to the Royals.
