Baseball: USC has nine-game winning streak
For the first time since 2005, USC won a three-game series over UCLA this past weekend, sweeping the three games. It gives the Trojans (24-17, 12-9) a nine-game winning streak. Leading the way have been a group of former Southland high school standouts.
Jake Hernandez, a Los Osos grad, leads the Trojans in hitting with a .367 batting average. Freshman Jeremy Martinez (Mater Dei) is at .324, and Loyola grad Kevin Swick is at .321.
Kyle Davis, a sophomore from Garden Grove Pacifica, has become the standout closer. He has six saves and a 1.25 ERA.
Brent Wheatley from Orange Lutheran is 4-1 with a 2.82 ERA. Wyatt Strahan from Villa Park is 4-3 with a 3.42 ERA.
