Basketball: Jockeys take on junior high kids in charity game
Jockeys are some of the most courageous athletes around. But they’re about to be tested. A group of jockeys riding at Santa Anita will take on middle school students from Arcadia Holy Angels in a charity basketball game on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. at Pasadena La Salle High.
Proceeds benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and the Eye on Jacob Foundation. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $5 if you purchase two and fans will receive one general admission ticket to Santa Anita.
Jockeys Gary Stevens, Mike Smith, Joe Talamo, Corey Nakatani and Rafael Bejarano are scheduled to participate. Some of them actually know how to make free throws. But they’ll need a lot more to beat the middle school kids.
