Boys’ basketball: Bennie Boatwright scores 38 points for Village Christian
Bennie Boatwright scored 38 points to help Village Christian stay unbeaten with an 82-54 win over Grant in the Chaminade tournament. Oaks Christian defeated Granada Hills Kennedy, 75-25. KJ Smith had 12 points and seven steals.
No. 2 Etiwanda came up with two victories in Rancho Mirage. Jordan McLaughlin had 20 points and Dominick Alexander had 17, including four three-pointers, in a 64-51 win over Calabasas. In a 59-53 win over Washington Bellevue, McLauglin scored 22 points.
Alex Copeland made a three-pointer with three seconds left to send the game into overtime, then Harvard-Westlake defeated Arizona Catalina Foothills, 80-65. Rancho Cucamonga defeated San Diego Cathedral Catholic, 72-47. Nick Culver scored 18 points.
No. 3 Loyola cruised to an 88-54 win over Sheldon in San Diego. Max Hazzard had 24 points. No. 4 Corona Centennial defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 71-65. Sedrick Barefield led the way with 20 points. Sierra Canyon (11-0) stayed unbeaten with 56-46 win over Georgia Faith Baptist. Jamani Spencer had 19 points.
No. 1 Santa Ana Mater Dei defeated Hawaii Kalani, 96-31. Rex Pflueger scored 24 points.
In Covina, Damien defeated Chino, 67-25. Jeremy Hemsley scored 23 points.
Westlake defeated Granada Hills, 59-36. Jeremiah Gray, Marcos Soto and Clark Nelson each had 12 points.
Fairfax defeated Arizona Desert Vista, 66-56. Donald Gipson scored 26 points.
Gardena Serra defeated Ripon, 82-36. Ron Freeman scored 21 points and Tavrion Dawson 19.
Campbell Hall defeated Eisenhower, 83-65. Aaron Holiday scored 27 points and Khalil Simplis had 15.
Thousand Oaks defeated Bakersfield Independence, 83-52. Matt Hauser had 37 points and five assists. Thousand Oaks is 11-1.
Birmingham defeated North Hollywood, 75-69. Christian Mendoza had 23 points. Canyon Country Canyon defeated Rio Mesa, 58-50. Ben Taufahema had 17 points. Royal defeated Frenso Sunnyside, 81-46. Nick Brandon finished with 22 points. Narbonne defeated Vista Del Lago, 59-43. Eban Jackson had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Highland picked up an 58-43 win over Crescenta Valley. Tommie Groce had 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Crespi defeated Napa, 90-39. Max Heidegger led the way with 23 points and Mike Krkeyan had 19 points.
