Boys’ basketball: It’s an all-South Bay semifinal in the Open Division
They were celebrating in the South Bay on Friday night, because Redondo and Westchester each advanced in the Southern California Regional Open Division playoffs and will meet in the semifinals on Tuesday night at Redondo.
Westchester won its road game against Riverside North, 79-61. Elijah Stewart scored 24 points. Deshon Taylor had 31 points for North. Redondo defeated La Costa Canyon, 71-51. Ian Fox scored 24 points.
The other semifinal will have Etiwanda playing at Santa Ana Mater Dei.
Mater Dei defeated St. Augustine, 65-38. Stanley Johnson scored 18 points and MJ Cage 14. Etiwanda defeated El Camino Real, 64-51, despite 22 points from Julian Richardson.
Jordan McLaughlin, who probably couldn’t have played in a baseball game on Friday night because of a torn labrum in his shoulder, had no trouble making major contributions on the basketball court for Etiwanda. He finished with 17 points.
