Boys’ basketball: Price to end a 17-day hiatus on Saturday with playoff opener

It’s the strangest thing for Coach Michael Lynch and his Price basketball players. They lost a Southern Section Open Division consolation game to Long Beach Poly on Feb. 25.

Seventeen days later, on Saturday, they will finally return to the court for a Southern California Regional Division V playoff game at home against Rancho Christian.

It’s as if a new season begins.

“Everything was strange, but I understand it,” Lynch said.

Lynch wanted his team to play in the Open Division playoffs. They lost to Mater Dei and Poly and now return to Division V for the state playoffs.

“I think the guys are in a better place mentally than they were,” he said. “We have some seniors and it’s time for them to step up.”

Price and another Open Division team, Sierra Canyon, are considered the teams to beat in Division V if each can regain their stamina, timing and chemistry after not playing any games for two weeks.

Sierra Canyon is seeded No. 1 and Price No. 2. The regional winner next Saturday will advance to the state Division V championship game in Berkeley.
