Football: Eastern League is showing its strength
The Eastern League could be the second strongest league behind the Marine League in the City Section this season.
South Gate (3-0), Huntington Park (3-0), Roosevelt (2-1), Garfield (1-2 and Bell (1-2) all won games on Friday.
South Gate, the City Section Division II title favorite, showed it has more than just Lavell Thompson to turn to on offense. Andrew Toro passed for 247 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-16 win over Eagle Rock.
Mario Ramirez had seven receptions for 97 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter in Roosevelt’s 27-25 win over Arleta.
Marquis Williams had a 54-yard run in Garfield’s 35-0 win over Washington.
Bell held off Franklin, 14-13.
