Football: Harvard-Westlake wins on Hail Mary pass

Alex Barnum had a night to remember for Harvard-Westlake, scoring on a 95-yard touchdown pass and then catching the game-winning 47-yard touchdown pass on the final play to help the Wolverines defeat St. Francis, 27-21, on Thursday night.
The game was tied, 21-21, when St. Francis punted the ball. It was downed at the 47-yard line with 1.3 seconds left.
Harvard-Westlake quarterback Noah Rothman threw up the Hail Mary pass. It was tipped in the end zone and fell right into the hands of Barnum, who’s the son of former Alemany and USC running back Terry Barnum, the school’s head of athletics.

Barnum also recovered a fumble at the four-yard line to set up a tying touchdown by Phil Thompson.
Harvard-Westlake (5-2, 2-0) has come out of seemingly nowhere to become an Angelus League title contender. The Wolverines seemed headed to difficult times when starting quarterback Marshal Cohen was lost for the season in the season opener against Loyola, but Rothman has come on strong.
The defense received sacks in the fourth quarter from Ben Cooper, Nick O’Brien and Cameron Welther.
