Football: Incoming freshman QB J.T. Daniels creates buzz at passing tourney
When is the last time an eighth-grader playing among high school athletes created a buzz at an all-star passing tournament?
That was the case Monday at JSerra, where J.T. Daniels, a 6-foot-1 eighth-grade quarterback expected to enroll at Santa Ana Mater Dei in the fall, helped his all-star team win the tournament. Of course, it helped that he had standout receivers Javon McKinley (Corona Centennial) and Joseph Lewis (Hawkins) catching passes. Also quarterbacking the team were Quentin Davis from St. John Bosco and Patrick O’Brien from San Juan Hills.
Another Mater Dei player, freshman linebacker Jack Genova, was attracting attention, as was St. John Bosco cornerback Mykal Tolliver.
There were close to 400 athletes participating in the seven on seven all-star event.
