LA84 Foundation awards $1.7 million in grants to youth organizations
The LA84 Foundation awarded $1.7 million in grants to Southern California youth organizations. The money comes from surplus funds from the 1984 Olympic Games. More than $220 million has been given back.
Among the recipients was $450,000 to Kids in Sports, a Los Angeles-based organization that specializes in providing sports opportunities for underserved youth. LA’s BEST, an after school program in the LAUSD, received $300,000
The Southern California Tennis Assn. received $150,000. Five awards will go toward facility improvements. The Antelope Valley Boys and Girls Club received $65,000 for a new gym floor. The Koreatown YMCA received $50,000 for a pool. The Caritas Corporation received $20,000 for a soccer field in Palmdale. The Sheriff’s Youth Foundation of L.A. County received $126,800 toward construction of play spaces for a league in South Los Angeles.
The Simi track club received $10,000. The American Roundball Corporation received $10,000 to provide partial scholarships. American Youth Football received $10,000 for equipment.
