Grant High grads have de Toledo in 5-A quarterfinals
Alvin Castro and Shawn Hackett played basketball together at Grant High for Howard Levine in the 1990s. Now they’ve come together to be coaches at West Hills de Toledo, a Jewish school that has reached the Southern Section Division 5-A quarterfinals.
Hackett was the longtime coach at Sherman Oaks CES before leaving to join Castro as associate head coach.
The best player is 6-foot-3 senior Liam Evenhaim, who’s averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds. He scored 36 points and had 11 rebounds in a win over Mojave on Tuesday night.
Next up for de Toledo (14-8) is a Thursday road game against Upland Western Christian.
