Jarrett Stidham threw for 419 yards and three scores in his first start, Corey Coleman caught a pair of touchdown passes and No. 6 Baylor held on for a 31-24 victory over pesky Kansas State on Thursday night at Manhattan, Kan., to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive.

Stidham, taking over for the injured Seth Russell, also ran for a touchdown to help the Bears (5-0 Big12) improve to 8-0 for only the second time in school history.

The freshman quarterback’s favorite target was Coleman, who caught 11 passes for 216 yards while pushing his nation-leading total to 20 touchdown receptions.

Kansas State got to 31-24 on Joe Hubener’s touchdown pass to Deante Burton with 4:07 left, and Chris Callahan’s missed field goal with 51 seconds remaining gave the Wildcats a chance.

But on their first play, Hubener threw a lateral to wide receiver Cody Cook, who then threw down the sideline. The sometimes-quarterback’s pass was picked off by Terrell Burt, who managed to get his right foot down inbounds, and the interception stood after an official’s review.

Baylor ran out the clock to drop Kansas State (3-5) to 0-5 in conference play for the first time since 1989, the first season for Coach Bill Snyder on the sideline.

Prescott leads Ole Miss to win

Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes and Mississippi State got 100-yard receiving games from De’Runnya Wilson and Fred Ross in a rain-soaked 31-13 victory over Missouri.

The Bulldogs kicked it into gear after a downpour stopped at halftime, turning a one-point game into a runaway with a 17-point third quarter that included two of Prescott’s TD throws.

Wilson had two touchdown receptions and Ross and Fred Brown had one each for Mississippi State (7-2, 3-2 Southeastern Conference), which has won four in a row to stay in contention in the SEC West. The Bulldogs pulled away without left tackle Rufus Warren, who injured his left leg late in the first half.

Prescott became the 10th player in SEC history with 10,000 yards of total offense after entering the game needing just 65. He completed 27 for 40 passes for 303 yards and led the Bulldogs in rushing with 47 yards in 14 carries.

Miami notes incorrect calls

Miami has told season-ticket holders and donors that the Atlantic Coast Conference acknowledged “multiple incorrect calls” against the Hurricanes in last weekend’s wild win over Duke, including an erroneous pass interference call on the drive in which the Blue Devils scored a go-ahead touchdown.

The Hurricanes made the announcement in a letter sent from Athletic Director Blake James on Thursday.

Miami won the game, 30-27, after an eight-lateral kickoff return was ultimately run into the end zone by Corn Elder. The ACC said Sunday that play should have been over long before Elder scored because a Miami player’s knee was down on one of the laterals, and the officiating crew was suspended for two games because of four errors found on that final play.

“Rest assured, beginning just hours after our victory, the University was forceful yet respectful in our approach,” James wrote in his letter Thursday, offering some detail on how Miami went about voicing its displeasure to the ACC. “Earlier today we sent a formal letter to the conference office, summarizing and reiterating our concerns, and now consider this matter closed.”
