Rose Bowl to host a celebration of life to honor the late Keith Jackson
The Rose Bowl is playing host to a celebration of life to honor legendary broadcaster Keith Jackson on April 15 at 4 p.m. at the stadium. Gates open at 3.
The event, which is open to the public, will feature guest speakers, musical performances and video tributes. Admission is free. Among those scheduled to speak are Jackson’s former college broadcasting colleagues Dan Fouts, Bob Griese, Todd Harris and Lynn Swann. Former college coach Harvey Hyde will speak, as will Jason Gesser, former quarterback at Washington State, Jackson’s alma mater. Serving as master of ceremonies will be Tim Brant, who worked with Jackson at ABC as a college football analyst.
“We encourage everyone who loves college football and remembers the iconic voice and words of Keith Jackson to come to the stadium to help us celebrate his extraordinary life and career,” Darryl Dunn, chief executive and general manager of the Rose Bowl, said in a statement.
The folksy Jackson, who spent some 50 years in the broadcast booth before retiring in 2006, died in January at 89.
In lieu of flowers, Jackson’s wife, Turi Ann, suggests donations to organizations that have been important to Jackson and his family. Among those are the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, which is raising funds for a Keith Jackson statue, and the Keith and Turi Jackson Excellence Fund at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications at Washington State.
