Narbonne routs Dorsey, 41-7, advances to rematch with Carson

For Narbonne, Friday night was easy pickings, especially for “T-Boone.”

That’s the moniker of Gauchos running back Tray Boone, who had 163 total yards on 12 touches, including a 50-yard touchdown catch, in the first half against Dorsey in a City Section Division I semifinal.

His night only lasted one half, which was a half longer than Dorsey (11-2), which was thoroughly beaten, 41-7.

Narbonne (10-3) advanced to the Dec. 9 championship at East L.A. College and will face Carson, which defeated San Pedro, 24-19, in the other semifinal.

“It’s the third time in four years for us, and we appreciate being back there,” Narbonne Coach Manuel Douglas said.

It will be an all-Marine League final and a highly anticipated rematch.

Narbonne beat Carson (8-5) in a 38-37 nail-biter Oct. 21 in which Carson mishandled the potential game-tying extra point in the final minute.

“It’s very hard to beat anybody twice,” Narbonne quarterback Troy Williams said.

Williams and Boone suffered first-half injuries against Dorsey and neither played in the second half, but Douglas said both should play against Carson.

Boone lay motionless after a crushing second-quarter tackle but was later medically cleared at a hospital, Douglas said.

Williams was hit late after he threw a 45-yard touchdown pass 14.3 seconds before halftime that put his team ahead, 41-0.

He limped off the field with an apparent left leg injury, finishing 12 of 18 for 202 yards with three touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown. “I’ll be fine next week,” Williams said.

It was supposed to be a battle of Dorsey’s defense, which had been allowing just 10 points a game, and Narbonne’s offense, which was averaging 48 points.

“I thought it was going to be a dogfight,” Williams said.

Not even close.

Behind Williams, Boone and others, Narbonne’s offense dominated Dorsey, while Dorsey didn’t record a first down in any of its first five drives.

It’s only score came on a 97-yard fumble return in the third quarter.
