FedEx Cup playoffs: Adam Scott has a plan, Tiger Woods has pain

Adam Scott may have found a new strategy for winning golf tournaments, while Tiger Woods might not be playing any golf at all as the FedEx Cup playoffs advance to the second round at the Deutsche Bank Championship this week.

Scott came from well back to capture the Barclays on Sunday, teeing off more than an hour ahead of the top groups. That gave him the chance to shoot a comparatively stress-free round of 66.

Then, he sat around the clubhouse watching the leaders crumble at crunch time, leaving him as the last man standing.

“When the pressure is on you to close out,” he said of the final groups, “it’s much harder and the holes become much harder and shots are far more crucial.”

The Masters champions added: “It’s quite good to wait around on a Sunday. It’s something I’d like to do more.”

As for Woods, the back nine was literally a pain in the back.

The world’s top-ranked golfer began suffering from spasms after his tee shot on No. 12 and was visibly uncomfortable. The pain worsened on No. 13, where he hooked a fairway metal into a swamp.

Asked if he will be ready for the Deutsche Bank Championship, he responded: “That’s all hypothetical right now. I just got off and I’m not feeling my best right now.”
