The Clippers are nearing a deal with veteran free agent Antawn Jamison that could be announced later this week, according to a source close to the situation who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.
Jamison, a 15-year veteran who spent last season with the Lakers, has stated his desire to play for an NBA title contender at this point in his career.
The 6-foot-8 forward is coming off an uneven season in which he averaged career lows in points (9.4), rebounds (4.8) and assists (0.7) while shooting 46.4%. He underwent surgery in late April to repair an injured right wrist.
Jamison also endured hurt feelings during the season, publicly criticizing Lakers Coach Mike D’Antoni’s lack of communication over his playing time and skipping exit interviews with the team.
The signing of Jamison would give the Clippers 14 players under contract for next season and end any interest in re-signing Lamar Odom, who remains a free agent.
