Did UCLA Bruins facility get a guest shot on ‘Extreme Makeover’?
Fort Mora?
UCLA’s practice facility has undergone a face-lift. Spaulding Field, which received new field turf and natural grass last year, has been gussied up, with new paint on the sheds, new tarp on the fence and even a flagpole, which flies a UCLA football flag.
Apparently, Coach Jim Mora has claimed this territory.
The sheds are black (with blue doors), as is the tarp. There is more to it than aesthetics, though. The old tarp had UCLA’s history -- an ancient one -- listing conference championships (last one 1998), Rose Bowl appearances (last one 1999) and national titles (only one was pre-face-masks).
All of that has been retired to the history books.
Is this all groundwork for the football house, something Athletic Director Dan Guerrero has promised? The house was a subject of conversation by department fundraisers at a donor gathering during spring practice in April.
Of course, Guerrero has also promised Coach Steve Alford a basketball practice facility.
Stay tuned for which project gets green-lighted first.
